Visual representation of space (Birds eye view)
Positive Design Aspects
Large glass sliding doors open up and link the courtyard to the rest of the library learning space. The courtyard also has a nice outlook over the oval and trees.
The painted mural of the Cherry blossom tree adds visual appeal.
Covered patio and overhead lights allow all weather access to the courtyard. Access to the Wi-Fi network is also available in the space.
Artifical turf softens and adds a textural element to the courtyard learning space.
Negative Design Aspects
Curriculum leaders office located next door to the library courtyard. Space is rarely used, so as not to disturb those working in the room.
Large recycling bin dominates the space.
The courtyard can feel dark and imposing due to covered patio, unpainted brick wall and timber fence.
Dark metal panels, black planter boxes and unpainted timber fence encloses the space and contributes to the lack of light.
Learning Space Design Problem
The learning space does not support student well-being, collaboration or social connectedness. A major contributing issue is the lack of comfortable seating and furniture in the space.
